Nollywood Filmmakers Hold Prayer Session for Ogogo, Seek Healing and Medical Help Amid Cancer Battle

The Nollywood family has once again shown its strength, rallying around veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, amid reports of his health battle.

The Nigerian film industry has rallied around veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, as colleagues gathered for a special prayer session amid reports that the actor is battling stage-four cancer.

The emotional gathering brought together some of Nollywood’s biggest names, who came together to pray for the veteran actor and seek divine intervention in his health battle. The prayer session was held at BOS Hall, LTV 8, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos, with several of Ogogo’s longtime colleagues in attendance.

Among those present were veteran actors including Jide Kosoko, Yinka Quadri, Fausat Balogun (Madam Saje), Lateef Adedimeji, Antar Laniyan, Bukky Wright, Mr Latin, Wale Elesho and Yomi Fash-Lanso. Veteran actor Adebayo Salami also reportedly joined the gathering virtually.

The gathering featured Islamic clerics who offered prayers for Ogogo, seeking God’s mercy, healing and strength for the actor and his family.

The emotional moment highlighted the strong bond within the Yoruba film industry, with colleagues who have spent decades working alongside Ogogo coming together at a difficult time. For many of those present, the gathering was about more than just prayers, it was a show of solidarity for a colleague who has contributed immensely to Nollywood.

The prayer session comes after Ogogo’s daughters, Kira and Lima Taiwo, publicly disclosed the actor’s reported health condition and appealed for medical assistance. According to reports, the family discovered the cancer diagnosis recently and said the condition had affected his abdomen.

Rather than simply asking the public for financial donations, the family reportedly appealed for recommendations for hospitals, oncologists and medical professionals with the expertise and facilities to handle his condition. Their appeal sparked an outpouring of support from Nigerians and members of the entertainment industry.

The response has reportedly been overwhelming. Veteran actor Jide Kosoko disclosed that more than 500 people had offered various forms of assistance, including medical and spiritual support. He also explained that Ogogo’s condition had made moving him between medical facilities difficult. There have also been efforts to connect the actor with cancer specialists and secure appropriate treatment.

Medical professionals have meanwhile urged the family to rely on qualified cancer specialists and exercise caution with unproven treatments. One doctor also stressed that a stage-four cancer diagnosis does not automatically mean that treatment is futile, noting that the appropriate approach depends on the specific type and extent of the cancer and the patient’s overall condition.

Ogogo has spent decades entertaining audiences and building a reputation as one of the respected figures in Yoruba-language cinema. Now, the industry is rallying around him in his own time of need. From prayers to medical assistance, colleagues and fans are hoping that the collective support will give the veteran actor and his family strength as they navigate the difficult period.

Kunmie ‘22’ Album Review: Kunmie Turns Love, Pressure and Growing Pains Into His Most Personal Statement Yet

With 22, Kunmie attempts to fill in those gaps. The 13-track album is not built around the idea of proving that he can make another “Arike.” Instead, it spends much of its time exploring the person behind the success. There is love here, of course, but there is also uncertainty, ambition, loneliness, faith and the pressure that comes with trying to build a life while still figuring out who you are.
