Aliko Dangote Reveals He Owns No House Outside Nigeria, Says His Focus Is Building the Nation
Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has surprised many by revealing that, despite his enormous wealth, he does not own a single house outside Nigeria, choosing to stay in hotels abroad so he can remain focused on business plans in his home country.
During a recent reveal, billionaire entrepreneur Aliko Dangote disclosed that he deliberately avoids buying luxury properties overseas, despite having the means to own multiple mansions around the world. According to him, owning houses abroad comes with unnecessary maintenance costs and extra responsibilities. He claims he sold his properties in the United States and United Kingdom to avoid extra distractions and to allow him stay committed to his long term business goal for Nigeria.
He said,
"Sometimes when you own a holiday home anywhere, you have to create that time to go and use that property. So now my life is very simple. Wherever I go, l use hotels; I pay. When I leave, nobody will call me and say I have a burst pipe or something is wrong," he added.
Dangote explained that his only personal homes are located in Lagos and Kano, two cities closely tied to both his personal life and business empire. He also revealed that whenever he visits Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, he does not own property there either instead choosing to stay in a rented apartment.
Dangote said this lifestyle reflects his belief that his primary mission is not to collect luxury assets, but to help drive Nigeria’s industrial growth, a goal he has pursued through massive investments in cement, sugar, agriculture, and more recently, oil refining through the Dangote Refinery.
His comments have sparked admiration online, with many Nigerians praising what they see as a display of patriotism and intentional simplicity from one of the world’s wealthiest men.
