Covetousness Is Why Nigerians Sell Properties to Take Care Jobs in America – Pastor Dolapo Lawal

Covetousness Is Why Nigerians Sell Properties to Take Care Jobs in America – Pastor Dolapo Lawal

A pastor has decided to throw her own hot take into the ongoing debate about Nigerians fleeing the country in droves, and honestly? A lot of people are not happy about it. Pastor Dolapo Lawal, who is the wife of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God's Jesus House DC in the United States, said something that has sparked serious backlash – she claimed that covetousness is what pushes people to sell their properties in Nigeria and take up care jobs in America, not desperation or economic hardship.

Let that sink in for a moment. According to her, people aren't leaving because the country is hard, because jobs are scarce, or because the naira has lost value. No. She says it's covetousness, the desire for what others have. She basically argued that people see their friends and neighbors traveling abroad and they want the same thing, so they sell everything, pack their bags, and go, even if it means working low-paying care jobs that Nigerians in America wouldn't touch.

Nigerians on social media have not taken this lightly. People are dragging her left and right, asking if she has been living under a rock. How can she blame covetousness when graduates are roaming the streets with no jobs, when electricity is a luxury, when fuel prices have gone through the roof, and when the cost of living is choking the life out of ordinary citizens? Some are pointing out the irony of her saying this from the comfort of America, where she doesn't have to deal with Nigerian problems every single day.

Others are saying she has a point, even if it's hard to swallow. There are indeed people who sell their properties and rush abroad because they want the "American dream", the big house, the nice car, the Instagram lifestyle. But to paint everyone with the same brush? That's where she lost a lot of people. Most Nigerians leaving right now aren't doing it because they're covetous, they're doing it because they're tired, tired of struggling, tired of uncertainty, tired of a system that doesn't work.

Pastor Dolapo might have meant well, but her words have opened a fresh conversation about why Nigerians really leave, and whether those who have made it abroad have the right to judge those trying to follow the sa

me path.
