Do Not Let Your Daughters Marry Men Earning Less Than N1 Million Monthly – Bintu Tells Parents

Bintu has thrown a bombshell into the marriage conversation, and parents are the ones receiving the shrapnel. The media personality made a passionate appeal to mothers and fathers everywhere, do not let your daughters marry men earning less than N1 million monthly, not N500,000, not N700,000. One million naira per month, minimum.

Her argument is not complicated as she believes that anything less than that will lead to suffering, stress, and regret for the woman. She wants parents to protect their daughters from men who cannot afford the kind of life she thinks every woman deserves. The internet has been on fire since her comments went viral. Some people agree with her completely, saying that money is not everything but it is a major factor in marriage. They argue that poverty destroys relationships and that parents have a responsibility to guide their daughters away from potential hardship.

Others have called her statement elitist and out of touch. They point out that in Nigeria today, even professionals with years of experience struggle to earn N1 million monthly. Doctors, lawyers, engineers, many are earning far less. By her standard, most Nigerian men would be unmarriageable.

A few have asked the obvious question, what about love? What about character? What about a man who is hardworking but still building his career? Bintu's response would probably be that love does not pay bills, but she has not addressed the criticism directly.

Parents are now divided, some are taking her advice seriously and rethinking the financial expectations they set for their daughters. Others are dismissing her as someone who does not understand the reality of most Nigerian families. One thing is certain, Bintu has started a conversation that will not end anytime soon. And somewhere, a young man earning N800k monthly is feeling very attacked.
