“Film Chose Me” - Genevieve Nnaji Reveals Acting Was Never the Dream, Says Fashion Was Her First Love

Nollywood icon Genevieve Nnaji has opened up about her early journey into entertainment, revealing that acting was never part of her original plan.

In a rare revelation, Genevieve Nnaji shared that her path into acting was more accidental than intentional, describing it as something that “chose”her rather than something she actively pursued.

According to the celebrated actress:

“My first experience on TV was at age 8. I think film chose me. I didn’t think I was going to be an actor, that was not a dream. I knew I wanted to be in the creative space, but fashion was my first love.”

The statement offers fans a deeper look into the mindset of one of Africa’s most influential actresses. Before becoming one of Nigeria’s biggest screen stars, Genevieve Nnaji began her TV journey as a child, eventually rising to national fame through her breakout performances in Nollywood films. Over the years, she has become one of the most respected names in African cinema, starring in and producing multiple acclaimed projects including Lionheart, Nigeria’s first-ever Netflix original film.

Her revelation that fashion was her original passion has also excited fans, many of whom have long admired her timeless style and elegance, calling it a fitting alternate career path she could have easily dominated.

For Genevieve Nnaji, acting may not have started as the dream but it ultimately became the path that turned her into a living legend.
