Former Big Brother Naija housemate Adekunle Olopade has given his insight into the rescue of the abducted pupils and teachers from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, saying he is amazed by their resilience after spending 56 days in captivity.

Taking to social media after news of their rescue, the reality TV star expressed disbelief that the victims could still smile despite having endured nearly two months in the forest.

Adekunle said the images of the rescued pupils and teachers brought back memories of his own traumatic experience, recalling a time police officers allegedly kidnapped him. Reflecting on the incident, he said he could still remember the emotional impact it had on him, making it difficult to comprehend why the Oriire victims have been nothing but jolly despite having spent weeks in captivity. 

His comments come shortly after the successful rescue of the abducted pupils and teachers, bringing an end to weeks of anxiety for their families and the people of Oyo State. Adekunle’s message has raised a lot of eyebrows, with many Nigerians questioning the release of the victims’ safe return, exactly when they were rescued, and the government's involvement in the matter. While others conclude that, no matter what happened, the survivors are back safe and sound and deserve compassion, support, and time to heal.
