“I Became the Bad Person When I Started Saying No” - BBNaija’s Phyna Opens Up on Family Pressure

Big Brother Naija winner Phyna has opened up about the emotional toll of family financial pressure, revealing that she became the “bad person” in her family the moment she began setting boundaries and saying “no” to money requests.

“I Became the Bad Person When I Started Saying No” - BBNaija’s Phyna Opens Up on Family Pressure

During a recent emotional livestream, Phyna reflects on her struggles with family expectations after rising to fame and financial success following her BBNaija win.

According to Phyna, she initially gave generously, helping with borehole construction, funeral expenses, and other family needs, because she believed that was the right thing to do. But over time, the constant demands became overwhelming. She revealed that things changed the moment she began declining some requests or suggesting cheaper alternatives, such as opting for less expensive roofing materials for her father’s house. She says that was when she suddenly became the “bad person” in the family.

Phyna also expressed regret that no one around her advised her to save or invest when the money first came in, saying much of her wealth was spent trying to meet endless expectations.

Her revelation has struck a chord with many Nigerians, who say her experience reflects a common reality in which successful family members are often expected to serve as the financial backbone of their extended family. Fans have since flooded social media with support, encouraging her to prioritise her peace, boundaries, and financial future.

Phyna has never been shy about sharing her struggles, and once again, her story is a reminder that generosity without boundaries can become exhausting, and sometimes saying “no” is not selfish; it’s survival.
