“I Don’t Want My Children to Do Music” - Davido Opens Up on Why He Hopes His Kids Choose a Different Career

“I Don’t Want My Children to Do Music” - Davido Opens Up on Why He Hopes His Kids Choose a Different Career

Despite becoming one of Africa’s biggest music stars, Davido says he hopes none of his children follow in his footsteps, revealing the difficult reality behind his journey to stardom.

Afrobeats superstar Davido has made a surprising revelation about his children, admitting that despite his remarkable success in the music industry, he wouldn't want his children to pursue music careers.

The award-winning singer shared the heartfelt confession during a recent appearance on the Vibes Podcast, where he reflected on the sacrifices, struggles and pressures that shaped his journey to becoming one of Africa’s biggest music stars. According to Davido, the entertainment industry is far more challenging than many people realize, and he does not want his children to experience the same difficulties he endured while chasing his dreams.

“I don’t want any of my children doing music because I don’t want them to go through what I went through,” he said.

The singer, however, made it clear that he would never stand in the way of his children’s ambitions if they genuinely choose music.

Davido revealed that one of his daughters already appears to have a natural gift for singing, but stressed that the final decision would always be theirs.

“Obviously, anything, because eventually my parents and my family allowed me chase my dream. I would never want to block any of them from chasing their dream. And especially if they’re good, why not?” he explained.

The father of five also reflected on his own path, revealing that he was the first member of the Adeleke family to pursue music professionally despite coming from one of Nigeria’s most prominent and wealthy families.

“I’m first generation musician in my family. I’m the first person that tried to go against the grain in the whole generation of Adeleke,” he said.

Davido’s comments have sparked widespread reactions online, with many fans praising him for acknowledging the realities of the music industry despite the fame and fortune it has brought him. Others pointed out the irony that one of Africa’s biggest music stars would rather his children avoid the profession that made him a global icon.

The revelation comes shortly after Davido made headlines for declaring that he is the only billionaire’s child who has successfully built a global name and fortune independent of his family’s wealth.

As the conversation continues online, many fans have applauded the singer for offering a rare glimpse into the personal struggles behind his success, proving that even at the peak of stardom, the journey to the top often comes with sacrifices many people never get to see.
