Veteran Nollywood actor and comedian Nkem Owoh popularly known as “Osuofia” has revealed that his journey to stardom was never part of his original plan. According to the beloved actor, he initially worked behind the scenes as a scriptwriter and had no intention of becoming an on-screen actor. Owoh revealed that he was primarily focused on writing scripts for television productions and sitcoms. However, colleagues and industry professionals kept encouraging him to step in front of the camera because of his natural ability to make people laugh behind the scenes.
“My coming in front of the camera was an accident. I was a writer,” he said, adding that people around him constantly pressured him to try acting because they believed he had a unique gift for comedy. Eventually, he gave it a shot, and the decision changed his life forever.
He further revealed that when he finally appeared on screen, audiences embraced him almost immediately. What started as an experiment soon became a full-time career, leading to some of the most memorable comedy performances in Nollywood history. He later became one of the industry’s biggest stars through his hit comedy, the Osuofia in Londonfranchise, earning a reputation as one of Nigeria’s greatest comic actors.
