“I Put Aside My Feelings to Break Ancestral Curse on My Daughter’s Life” - Iyabo Ojo Explains Why She Honoured Her Ex-Husband at Priscilla’s Wedding
Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has opened up about the emotional reason she chose to put aside her differences with her ex-husband during their daughter Priscilla’s wedding.
Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has opened up about the emotional decision to give her ex-husband a prominent role during their daughter Priscilla Ojo’s wedding, revealing that she was determined to break an unhealthy family cycle.
Speaking on The Morayo Show with Morayo Afolabi-Brown, the actress explained that she deliberately put aside her personal feelings and past differences with her ex husband because she wanted to create a better foundation for her daughter’s marriage. According to Iyabo, she strongly believes that some family patterns can only be broken through intentional actions.
“There’s something called ancestral curses. And we Africans believe it. Christians also. And I believe that if you do not want something to continue, you have to be able to break it.”
The actress revealed that both of her parents were separated, so she is determined to ensure her children experience a different path.
“Every mistake they had made, that I have made, my children will not make it,” she said.
Iyabo explained that this conviction motivated her to set aside any unresolved issues with her ex-husband so that their daughter could begin her married life without carrying the burden of their past. She also emphasized that her ex-husband had every right to play an important role at the wedding because he remains Priscilla’s father.
“Her father is not dead, he’s alive. So why can’t he be there?” she asked.
According to the actress, whatever differences existed between her and her former partner should never interfere with their daughter’s relationship with either parent.
“He didn’t wrong her. Me and him fell out. That has nothing to do with her. I made the choice to marry him, right? So whatever it is that is going on between me and him, is between me and him. It shouldn’t extend to her.”
Iyabo’s heartfelt remarks have since resonated with many social media users, with several praising her maturity and willingness to prioritize her daughter’s happiness over personal grievances.
