"I'm a Nobody Without My Culture" – Paul P-Square Declares After Brother's Dismissive Language Remark

Singer Paul Okoye, better known as Rudeboy, has publicly distanced himself from his twin brother Peter Okoye's controversial stance on Nigerian languages, declaring on X that he would be "a nobody" without his culture, native language, and Igbo pride.

"I'm a Nobody Without My Culture" – Paul P-Square Declares After Brother's Dismissive Language Remark

The drama began earlier this week when Peter Okoye, known as Mr P, sparked outrage after boasting about his children's fluency in French while on vacation in Paris. When a fan asked whether his children could also speak Igbo, Peter responded dismissively, "And who naija language help? Make I hear word abeg."

The remark quickly drew backlash from Nigerians, with many pointing out the irony that Peter has infused Igbo and Yoruba into his songs and profited from the commercial appeal of those languages.

On Wednesday, July 29, 2026, Paul took to his official X account with a video clip featuring cultural imagery, accompanied by a strongly worded declaration. "I'm a 'nobody' I repeat!! a nobody!! without the culture, native language, the pride, of a Nigerian 100% proudly Nigerian 100% proudly Igbo," he wrote.

Fans quickly interpreted the post as a subtle jab at his brother's controversial comments, with one user commenting, "Bro is trying to say he doesn't share the same ideology as his brother."

Peter had doubled down on his stance amid the criticism, posting a series of messages telling critics to "Mind Your Business" and repeatedly questioning who speaking a Nigerian language has actually helped. He argued that English remains Nigeria's official language and suggested that globally recognized languages like French create far more opportunities for his children.

Comedian Klint Da Drunk backed Peter's position, arguing that "speaking French and English or any globally recognised language will open far better doors for your kids than Igbo or Yoruba will."

The debate has sparked wider conversations about the balance between preserving indigenous languages and equipping children with languages perceived to offer greater global opportunities.

Some observers noted that Paul's declaration was not just about language but also a reflection of the long-running public tensions between the once-inseparable twins, whose relationship has been strained since P-Square split.

As the two brothers continue to chart separate paths, their differing views on cultural identity have once again placed them at the centre of public discussion.
