Joy as Abducted Oyo Pupils and Teachers Finally Regain Freedom After Weeks in Captivity

After weeks of fear, protests and prayers, the abducted pupils and teachers from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State have finally been released. 

The development was confirmed by the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who announced that all the kidnapped victims had been successfully rescued by Nigeria’s security agencies. Sharing the news on his X account, Onanuga wrote:

“Finally, all the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Oriire, Oyo have been rescued by our security agencies.”

The rescue brings an end to a traumatic ordeal that began when gunmen stormed schools in the Ahoro-Esiele and Yawota communities of Oriire LGA, abducting dozens of pupils and teachers. The incident caused nationwide outrage with parents, community leaders and Nigerians across the country demanding immediate action to free them.

Security agencies have been working to increase efforts to rescue the victims who were held captive for several weeks. Families of the hostages suffered agonisingly from their long absence, many clinging to hope in prayers and appeals to the government. Now, the news of their rescue has sparked widespread relief and celebration across social media with many Nigerians thanking the security operatives that carried out the operation and expressing joy that the victims are finally returning home.

Details of the rescue operation have not yet been released to the public but the successful release of the pupils and teachers has been called a major breakthrough after weeks of uncertainty.
