Late Nollywood Star Alexx Ekubo Laid to Rest in Arochukwu as Widow Bids Him an Emotional Final Farewell

It was a heartbreaking day in Arochukwu, Abia State, as family, friends, colleagues, and fans gathered to bid a final farewell to beloved Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo.

The late actor Alex Ekubo was laid to rest today Thursday 18 June, in his hometown of Arochukwu, Abia State after a funeral service at Mary Slessor School Field, Amanagwu Village. His burial capped a farewell that started with a Service of Songs in Lagos and a wake-keep in his family compound. Earlier in the day, his remains were carried through parts of the community, including a symbolic stop at the palace of the Eze of Arochukwu before proceeding to his family home for the final rites.

One of the most emotional moments of the ceremony was when Alexx’s widow, Anwuli Amakom, said her final goodbyes at his graveside. Videos of the burial showed her throwing sand on her late husband’s grave in a traditional last farewell, a deeply emotional moment that moved mourners and quickly went viral on social media.

Top Nigerian entertainers turned up at the burial to pay their last respects to their fallen colleague. Ini Edo, Nancy Isime, IK Ogbonna, AY Makun, Yomi Casual, Omoni Oboli, Funnybone, Angela Okorie, Mike Godson, Pretty Mike, Venita Akpofure, Nons Miraj and many others were in attendance as they all came together to celebrate the life and legacy of the actor.

Videos and photos from the burial surfaced, and the social media was flooded with emotional tributes from fans and colleagues. Many described it as one of the most heart wrenching moments in Nollywood this year. Messages celebrating his kindness, generosity and indelible impact on the film industry continued to pour in as Nigerians reflected on the legacy he leaves behind.

Burial of Alexx Ekubo was a sad goodbye to one of Nollywood’s shining lights. As his family, friends and colleagues laid him to rest in the soil of his hometown, they also celebrated a life that touched countless lives. He left us too soon, but his legacy in Nigerian cinema and the memories he created with those around him will live on.
