MURIC Alleges Religious Bias In N25bn Airport Chapel Project And Relief Distributions

The Muslim Rights Concern has accused authorities of favouring Christians in the N25 billion Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport chapel project and recent relief distributions.

MURIC Alleges Religious Bias In N25bn Airport Chapel Project And Relief Distributions

MURIC is at it again. And this time, they're not holding back. The Muslim Rights Concern has come out to allege religious bias in two major areas, the massive N25 billion chapel project at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja and how relief materials have been shared to vulnerable Nigerians.

According to MURIC, Christians are getting preferential treatment while Muslims are being sidelined. And they want answers.

Let's start with the airport chapel, N25 billion is not small money. That's twenty-five billion naira to build a chapel at the country's main international airport. MURIC is asking a simple question, where is the mosque? If you can sink billions into a chapel, why is there no equivalent investment in Muslim worship spaces at the same facility?

Their argument is that Nigeria is a multi-religious country. The constitution guarantees freedom of worship for everyone. So why does one faith get billions while the other gets scraps?

Then there's the relief distribution angle, MURIC claims that when palliatives and aid materials are being shared whether by government agencies or private organizations, Christian communities are prioritised. Muslim communities, especially in the North, are allegedly getting less or nothing at all.

They didn't just make noise and walk away. They're calling for a full investigation and they want to see the breakdown of how that N25 billion will be spent. They want records of relief distribution showing exactly which communities got what.

Reactions have been pouring in since the story broke and Some people are siding with MURIC. They say the group has a point and You cannot ignore one religion and pour everything into another, especially in a country as divided along religious lines as Nigeria. That kind of thing breeds resentment.

Others are saying MURIC cries wolf too often that they see religious bias in everything, even when it's not there. Some Christians have fired back, pointing out that Northern states have built mosques and Islamic centres with government funds for years and nobody complained.

The truth is somewhere in the middle and Nigeria has a long history of religious tension. These kinds of allegations don't come out of nowhere. But whether MURIC has concrete evidence this time or is just making noise remains to be seen.

The airport chapel project is already underway and N25 billion has been committed. So even if MURIC keeps protesting, will anything change? Probably not. But they've succeeded in one thing getting people to pay attention.

And in Nigeria, that's sometimes the first step.
