“My Mother Had Four Sets of Twins, But I’m the Only Surviving Child” - Actor Taiwo Hassan Opens Up About His Family
Veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan has shared a deeply emotional story about his childhood while reflecting on fatherhood, responsibility and the importance of men standing by their children.
Veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has shared a deeply personal story about his family while also speaking on the importance of parental responsibility.
The respected actor revealed that his mother gave birth to four sets of twins, but sadly, none of the children survived, leaving him as her only surviving child. Hassan shared the emotional revelation while reflecting on the responsibilities that come with fatherhood and the importance of parents caring for their children. According to the actor, being a father comes with responsibilities that cannot simply be ignored or avoided.
“If you say you’re a man and you don’t care about your children, that responsibility is hanging by the corner of your house. Anytime you return, you’ll still have to face it squarely.”
His statement highlights his belief that regardless of the circumstances surrounding a relationship, parents should not abandon their responsibilities towards their children.
During the conversation, the interviewer suggested that the increasing number of single mothers could be linked to men abandoning their responsibilities. However, Ogogo was quick to caution against generalising the actions of some men to all fathers.
“Not all men. Not all men. Do you agree with that or not?”
The actor’s response has sparked conversations about fatherhood, absent parents and the challenges faced by single-parent families. While some people agreed with his argument that the actions of irresponsible ones should not judge responsible fathers, others focused on his emotional revelation about being his mother’s only surviving child after the loss of four sets of twins.
For many, Ogogo’s story is a reminder of life's unpredictability and the importance of appreciating family while taking parental responsibilities seriously. His final message is that the actions of a few should not be used to define all fathers.
