“My Wife Must Know How to Cook” - Zerry DL Opens Up on His Expectations for Marriage

Fast-rising Afrobeats singer Zerry DL once again stirs debate on social media by sharing his views on marriage and the qualities he desires in a future wife. During a recent episode of You, Me & A Glass of Wine, hosted by Jima Emmanuel, the singer described himself as a “traditional man” and emphasized that cooking is one of the key qualities he expects from his partner. When asked if he was currently in a relationship, Zerry replied that he was not, and noted that discussions about his future wife are a serious matter.

“No, I’m not in a relationship, but if you’re talking about my wife, it’s something serious.”

The host then asked whether he would mind if his future wife did not know how to cook. Zerry DL responded firmly that he would not, insisting that his wife must know how to cook.

“I mind. She must know how to cook. My wife must know how to cook.”

Zerry DL explained that while he appreciates modern relationships, he still values certain traditional family ideals. He prefers a wife who can cook because it reflects the kind of home and family life he hopes to create.

His comments have sparked mixed reactions online. Some social media users agree, arguing that cooking is a vital life skill for both men and women and continues to be important in many Nigerian households. Others counter that marriage should be based on mutual understanding and shared responsibilities rather than traditional gender roles.

The discussion has quickly expanded into a broader debate about modern relationships, cultural values, and the changing roles of men and women in marriage.
