"Nigerians Are Still Doing Business in South Africa" – Oyemykke Warns Against Hypocrisy in Calls to Ban Tyla

Media personality Oyemykke has weighed in on the growing controversy surrounding South African singer Tyla's planned Lagos concert, arguing that calls to cancel the show are hypocritical while Nigerians continue to live and do business freely in South Africa.

"Nigerians Are Still Doing Business in South Africa" – Oyemykke Warns Against Hypocrisy in Calls to Ban Tyla

The debate intensified after social media activist VeryDarkMan issued a stern warning to the organisers of Tyla's upcoming Lagos concert, threatening to shut down the show in response to the alleged xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other African migrants in South Africa.

"There will be no Tyla concert in Nigeria," VDM declared in a viral video, arguing that it would be wrong for the South African singer to profit from Nigerians while citizens are being targeted in her home country.

His stance has been echoed by several Nigerians on X, with one user writing, "Any Nigerian who attends Tyla's concert in Lagos is just as useless as the government btw".

However, Oyemykke pushed back against the boycott campaign, warning that such actions could have serious consequences for Nigerians living in South Africa.

"There are still a lot of Nigerians in South Africa, so telling Tyla not to come here will trigger another madness there," he said during a live session.

He argued that it would be inconsistent to oppose Tyla's visit while Nigerians remain active in the country, noting that the economic and cultural ties between both nations should not be disregarded in the heat of political tension.

The debate has drawn sharp divisions across social media platforms. Some Nigerians have backed the boycott, insisting that South African entertainers should be held accountable for their silence on the recurring attacks.

Others, however, have agreed with Oyemykke's position, arguing that musicians should not be blamed for government failures and that targeting Tyla would only worsen tensions.

One X user wrote, "You're fighting an illogical battle, political issues should never stop a musician from performing in the said country".

While Tyla has not publicly responded to the boycott campaign, her Lagos concert, scheduled for December 22, 2026, remains on course.

The controversy has reignited memories of previous xenophobic attacks in South Africa, which strained diplomatic relations between Africa's two largest economies and led Nigerian entertainers to cancel performances in solidarity with victims.

As the debate continues, Oyemykke's warning highlights the delicate balance between holding leaders accountable and protecting ordinary Nigerians who are building lives in South Africa.
