"No Reburial Until DNA Test Is Done" – Mohbad's Father Insists as Paternity Dispute Continues
Joseph Aloba is standing his ground. The father of the late singer Mohbad, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Aloba, has made it clear that his son's remains will not be reburied until the paternity question surrounding his grandson, Liam, is finally settled.
Speaking after proceedings at the Magistrate Court in Ikorodu on Tuesday, Aloba reiterated that the DNA test is crucial not only to determine Liam's paternity but also to the broader quest for justice over Mohbad's death.
His insistence has kept the controversy alive nearly three years after the singer's passing. Mohbad died on September 12, 2023, under circumstances that remain unresolved, and his body was exhumed for an autopsy as part of ongoing investigations into his death.
However, the paternity dispute has become a major point of contention, with Aloba and the late singer's wife, Wunmi, locked in a public battle over whether Liam is truly Mohbad's biological son.
The case was adjourned by Chief Magistrate Salamah Matepo until August 11, 2026, for the continuation of hearing on an application filed by the Aloba family's legal team.
The issue of paternity has divided public opinion, with some supporting Aloba's demand for a DNA test and others accusing him of trying to control the narrative surrounding his son's legacy.
In a recent development, Wunmi made a shocking revelation, claiming that Joseph Aloba had attempted to perform a "spiritual DNA test" on Liam before the singer's death.
She alleged that he took her and her son to a herbalist under the guise of a prayer session, where the child was asked to pick between a Bible, a Quran, a wooden gong, and a Koran.
The late singer's wife also claimed that she had never stopped Joseph Aloba from seeing his grandson, countering accusations that she was preventing him from having a relationship with Liam.
She further stated that Mohbad had signed a will which has been processed and paid for at the Ikorodu magistrates' court, and that she is the sole signatory and beneficiary of Liam's trust fund, which she insists was set up by Mohbad.
In a separate development, music star Davido has pledged to support Mohbad's family financially, a gesture that has been widely praised by fans.
