Reports Claim Ex-Skye Bank Chairman Tunde Ayeni Was Robbed Inside Kuje Prison
Former Skye Bank chairman Tunde Ayeni is reportedly at the centre of another controversy after claims surfaced online alleging that he was robbed of luxury items worth about 120 million naira while being held at the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja.
Tunde Ayeni, the former Skye Bank Chairman, has reportedly been robbed while in prison. The reports circulating across social media platforms claim that Ayeni allegedly lost an expensive wedding ring and wristwatch shortly after being remanded at Kuje prison over ongoing fraud-related charges.
Ayeni, former chairman of the defunct Skye Bank Plc, was remanded in Kuje prison a few months ago by a Federal Capital Territory High Court on alleged multi-billion-naira fraud charges filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The EFCC accused him of criminal breach of trust, misappropriation, and diversion of funds amounting to over 15.6 billion naira, allegations which he denied in court. Several reports also confirmed that Ayeni spent weeks in Kuje custody before later being granted bail under strict conditions.
The alleged robbery story has since generated heavy online reactions, with many Nigerians debating prison security and treatment of high-profile inmates.
While Tunde Ayeni’s team or the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) have yet to verify the claims, the internet continues to wonder how luxury items allegedly worth millions of naira found their way into prison custody in the first place.
