Street Boys Attack Singer Mavo’s Car in Lagos After He Refuses to Give Them Money

An unsettling incident involving rising Nigerian artist Mavo has sparked conversations online after street boys reportedly attacked his car in Lagos. The situation, which escalated quickly, highlights ongoing concerns about street harassment and extortion faced by motorists in parts of the city.

Street Boys Attack Singer Mavo’s Car in Lagos After He Refuses to Give Them Money

Nigerian singer Mavo recently found himself at the center of a disturbing encounter in Lagos after a group of street boys, commonly referred to as “agberos”, allegedly attacked his vehicle with stones.

According to reports from circulating videos, the incident occurred while the artist was driving through Lekki Phase 1, a highbrow area known for its busy streets and commercial activity. Trouble reportedly began when the group approached Mavo and demanded money, a common occurrence for drivers in certain parts of Lagos. However, when the singer refused to comply, the situation quickly escalated.

Eyewitness accounts suggest that the aggrieved street boys began hurling stones at Mavo’s Mazda car, causing visible damage and creating a tense, potentially dangerous scene. The sudden attack not only left the vehicle dented but also raised concerns about the safety of motorists navigating similar areas.

In response to the incident, Mavo is said to have involved law enforcement authorities, leading to the arrest of one of the alleged attackers. While details about the suspect and possible charges remain unclear, the development signals a pushback against what many see as a normalised form of street-level harassment.

Encounters with agberos have long been a part of urban life in Lagos, particularly in areas with heavy traffic or active transport hubs. While some operate within informal systems tied to transport unions, others are often accused of intimidation, harassment, and extortion.

Incidents like this continue to fuel public debate about the need for stricter enforcement of laws and better protection for residents and visitors alike. Many Lagosians have taken to social media to share similar experiences, calling for government intervention and improved urban security.
