"There Are Always Two Sides to Every Story" – Comedian AY Criticises Social Media's Rush to Judgment

Popular Nigerian comedian and actor Ayo Makun, better known as AY, has called out the culture of hasty public judgment on social media, criticising the tendency of online users to side with whoever tells their story first without waiting for the full picture to emerge.

"There Are Always Two Sides to Every Story" – Comedian AY Criticises Social Media's Rush to Judgment

In a post shared via his X page on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, the veteran entertainer described online public opinion as a "court of injustice" that often fails to consider full context before condemning individuals.

"The social media court of injustice has always favoured the first-served narrative, often rushing to immediate judgment before the other side is even heard," AY stated.

The filmmaker expressed hope that social media users will eventually adopt a more balanced approach when dealing with online controversies and public disputes, saying, "I look forward to the day when social media fully embraces one simple truth: there are always two sides to every story".

He added that recent online conversations suggest public perception may gradually be shifting toward fairness.

The comedian has been a consistent voice against the culture of knee-jerk reactions on social media, particularly when it comes to relationship conflicts and celebrity dramas.

He has previously warned that the blame game on social media is ruining marriages and making it harder for broken relationships to heal.

According to him, people now treat real-life relationship problems like a movie with heroes and villains, and this trend makes it difficult for couples to solve their issues privately.

He argued that both emotional neglect and betrayal are deeply painful experiences, but one form of hurt should not automatically be used to excuse or justify another.

AY's message has particular resonance amid the ongoing Okoye family feud, which has dominated Nigerian social media for weeks. His call for balance appears to be a direct response to the public's tendency to pick sides in the dispute between Peter Okoye, his twin brother Paul, and their elder brother Jude.

By urging people to remember that "there are always two sides to every story," the comedian is cautioning against the rush to judgment that has characterised much of the public discourse surrounding the P-Square saga.

The comedian, who has built a reputation for blending humor with social commentary, has been an advocate for greater reflection and nuance in public discourse.

He has also spoken out against the pressure of social media comparisons, warning that many people are trying to live up to lives that do not even exist, and that the constant desire to "feel among" can lead to frustration, debt, or emotional exhaustion.

His latest comments reinforce his long-held belief that peace of mind should be valued above online validation and that meaningful resolution is more likely when both sides acknowledge their role in a breakdown, rather than outsourcing accountability to public opinion.
