"They Damaged My Car Thinking I Was Ayra Starr" – Singer's Sister Cries Out After Area Boys Attack in Lagos

"They Damaged My Car Thinking I Was Ayra Starr" – Singer's Sister Cries Out After Area Boys Attack in Lagos

Saltiana, the younger sister of Afrobeats star Ayra Starr and a disc jockey popularly known as DJ Salt of Life, has raised alarm after suspected area boys allegedly damaged her car in Lagos after mistaking her for the award-winning singer.

The incident occurred on Saturday, August 1, 2026, leaving Saltiana distraught after her vehicle was vandalised. According to the DJ, the situation became even more upsetting because the hoodlums repeatedly shouted "Ayra Starr" during the confrontation, believing she was the Grammy-nominated singer.

She shared the ordeal on her Instagram Story on Sunday, writing, "They damaged my car yesterday and honestly it was so sad!!! And the fact that they kept shouting Ayra Starr because they thought I was her made it even worse. THIS HAS TO STOP".

The attack highlights a troubling trend where celebrities and public figures are increasingly becoming targets of harassment and violence in Lagos.

Saltiana also expressed concern over what she described as a growing trend in Lagos where motorists driving expensive vehicles are being targeted by street touts who demand money and resort to violence when their demands are not met.

"Imagine, this is what happens now in Lagos once you drive a nice car. These Agberos/Area Boys won't let you go except you give them money. If you don't give them, they might stone your car and break something.

So basically, it's by force," she lamented. She also warned that the incident could have escalated into something more serious, as the hoodlums appeared to be armed and aggressive. "We honestly thank God we are alive. Be careful out there, guys. This is the new Lagos. Please stay safe," she added .

The DJ's complaint comes amid growing public concern over the increasing reports of harassment, extortion, and vandalism by street touts in parts of Lagos, including Lekki, Ajah, Oshodi, Mushin, and Agege.

Her account was echoed by music producer and disc jockey DJ Neptune, who also recounted an encounter with suspected hoodlums while leaving Peller's wedding on Saturday, stating, "A bunch of these agberos/hoodlums tried to mob me as I was leaving Peller's wedding.

It took confidence to navigate my way out. Those guys no get joy at all". The separate accounts have renewed calls for stronger enforcement and improved protection for motorists across Lagos, with many questioning why the government has not taken more decisive action to curb the activities of street touts who have become a menace on Lagos roads.

The attack on Saltiana's car comes amid heightened tension surrounding Ayra Starr, who recently faced backlash after reports that she and members of her team were denied visas to perform in South Africa.

The incident has also sparked conversations about the safety of celebrities in Nigeria, with many calling on the Lagos State Government to address the growing insecurity on the roads.

As the debate continues, Saltiana has made it clear that she will not stay silent, using her platform to call for change and warn others about the dangers of driving in Lagos. "THIS HAS TO STOP," she wrote, echoing the frustration of many who have been victims of similar attacks.
