Tony and Awele Elumelu Named 2026 TIME100 Philanthropy Honourees by TIME Magazine
Nigerian business leader Tony Elumelu and his wife, Awele Vivien Elumelu, have earned global recognition after being named among the 2026 TIME100 Philanthropy Honourees, in recognition of their transformative impact on entrepreneurship and philanthropy across Africa.
TIME Magazine has officially named Tony Elumelu and Awele Vivien Elumelu to its prestigious 2026 TIME100 Philanthropy list, which recognises some of the world’s most influential leaders shaping the future of philanthropy.
The husband-and-wife duo were honoured by the Tony Elumelu Foundation, which has become one of Africa’s most impactful philanthropic institutions focused on entrepreneurship and youth empowerment. Since launching the programme in 2015, the foundation has disbursed over $100 million in seed funding, supported more than 27,000 entrepreneurs, and helped create millions of direct and indirect economic opportunities across Africa.
TIME reportedly highlighted the Elumelus’ belief that young Africans deserve access to capital, mentorship, and opportunities to build sustainable businesses and transform their communities.
The recognition adds to a growing list of global honours for Tony Elumelu, who was previously named to the TIME100 Most Influential People list in 2020 and received a TIME100 Impact Award in 2022.
By making the 2026 TIME100 Philanthropy list, Tony and Awele Elumelu have once again placed African philanthropy on the global stage, proving that impact can be made at any level from anywhere.
