Tony Elumelu to Succeed Udoma Udo Udoma as Seplat Energy Chairman

Seplat Energy has announced a major leadership transition, naming Tony Elumelu as its next Board Chairman effective January 1, 2027. He will replace Udoma Udo Udoma who exits the board on December 31, 2026. The appointment is seen as a major move for one of Africa’s leading indigenous energy companies. “The succession plan is intended to support the company’s long-term growth strategy and help to drive its ambitious 2030 roadmap,” said Seplat. Elumelu’s rise within Seplat follows a series of key events earlier this

In January 2026, he joined the company’s board as a Non-Executive Director after his companies, Heirs Holdings and Heirs Energies, acquired a 20.07% stake in Seplat in a transaction valued at nearly $500 million, making his group the company’s largest shareholder.

Reacting to the appointment, Elumelu said he was honored to succeed Udoma and expressed confidence in Seplat’s future, emphasizing the role indigenous energy companies can play in driving economic transformation across Nigeria and Africa.

This appointment comes alongside other major leadership changes at Seplat, including the planned retirement of long-serving CEO Roger Brown and the appointment of Effiong Okon as the company’s next Chief Executive Officer.
