He will replace Udoma Udo Udoma who exits the board on December 31, 2026. In January 2026, he joined the company’s board as a Non-Executive Director after his companies, Heirs Holdings and Heirs Energies, acquired a 20.07% stake in Seplat in a transaction valued at nearly $500 million, making his group the company’s largest shareholder.
Reacting to the appointment, Elumelu said he was honored to succeed Udoma and expressed confidence in Seplat’s future, emphasizing the role indigenous energy companies can play in driving economic transformation across Nigeria and Africa.
This appointment comes alongside other major leadership changes at Seplat, including the planned retirement of long-serving CEO Roger Brown and the appointment of Effiong Okon as the company’s next Chief Executive Officer.
