Twitter Troll Finally Sentenced to 2 Years in Prison for False Death Claim About Adekunle Gold’s Daughter
A Nigerian court has reportedly sentenced Samuel Adeboye Adeyeye, known on X as @Swanky0001, to two years imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to spreading false and malicious information about singer Adekunle Gold’s daughter, Deja.
A while back, a Twitter troll falsely posted that Deja, the daughter of Adekunle Gold and Simi, had died from a rare illness. The disturbing post quickly went viral, drawing quick condemnation from fans and the public. Many Nigerians criticised the post as one of the most extreme examples of “clout chasing” on social media, calling for legal action against the user.
Following his arrest, reports say Samuel Adeboye appeared in court and pleaded guilty to the charges, admitting to deliberately spreading the false information online. The court subsequently convicted him and gave him a two-year prison sentence which many online have described as a landmark moment for social media accountability.
The judgment has reignited conversations about cyberbullying, online harassment, and fake news, particularly the rise of so-called “Twitter banger boys” users accused of posting harmful or fabricated content purely to gain attention and engagement.
Many social media users have praised the sentence, saying it sends a strong warning that online actions can carry real-life legal consequences. Others have called for broader enforcement of cybercrime and defamation laws to curb harmful online behaviour.
