“Why I Burned the Cloth I Wore to Alexx Ekubo’s Funeral” - Angela Okorie Explains Emotional Decision
Days after attending Alexx Ekubo’s burial in Abia, Angela shared a video on her Instagram Story showing the outfit she wore being set on fire. The actress explained that said she was following the advice from her godmother, who believes clothes worn to a burial should not be kept.
She wrote:
“This is the outfit I wore to Alex’s burial. My Godmother said it’s not good to have the cloth you wore to a burial around you, you burn them. So family and friends take note, I felt I should share this information. May the Lord keep and bless us with long life. Amen.”
The post quickly went viral, with many Nigerians expressing mixed opinions. While some said the practice aligns with some cultural and spiritual beliefs held in parts of Nigeria, others questioned why the actress felt the need to share it publicly. Several critics also pointed out that she appeared to burn only the dress, asking why other items she wore to the burial such as her wig, shoes, handbag, jewelry, and phone. Since Alexx Ekubo was laid to rest in his hometown of Arochukwu after his battle with metastatic kidney cancer, several emotional moments surrounding the funeral have dominated headlines.
Tributes from colleagues, heartfelt messages from close friends, and now Angela Okorie’s controversial post have kept conversations about the late actor trending across social media.
