You Can't Say the President and Vice President Are Not Working – Singer Yinka Alaseyori Urges Nigerians to Pray More Over Insecurity

Gospel singer Yinka Alaseyori has urged Nigerians to pray for the abducted schoolchildren in Oyo State, insisting that prayer remains essential in addressing the country's security challenges.

You Can't Say the President and Vice President Are Not Working – Singer Yinka Alaseyori Urges Nigerians to Pray More Over Insecurity

Yinka Alaseyori is not backing down from her belief in the power of prayer, even as many Nigerians are growing tired of religious solutions to practical problems. Speaking about the recent abduction of schoolchildren in Oyo State, she dismissed claims that prayers are ineffective, saying, "So many people are saying the prayer they are praying is not working, but believe me, prayers are working." She also cautioned Nigerians against allowing political interests to shape their reactions to the kidnapping, stressing that everyone needs prayers, from the President down to the last person in the country.

Her statement has divided opinions online. Some people agree with her, arguing that prayer is a powerful weapon and that Nigerians should not abandon their faith just because the situation is difficult. They point out that many problems in the country have spiritual roots, and prayer is the only way to address those deeper issues. They also argue that praying does not mean doing nothing else; it means inviting divine intervention while still taking practical steps to solve problems.

Others have criticized Yinka for reducing a serious security crisis to a prayer issue. They argue that bandits and kidnappers are not going to be stopped by prayers alone; they will be stopped by guns, intelligence, and decisive action from security forces. They say that statements like hers allow the government to offload responsibility onto citizens, as if the insecurity is happening because Nigerians are not praying enough. The families of the abducted children, they argue, do not need prayers as much as they need action.

Yinka also defended the President and Vice President, saying that Nigerians cannot claim they are not working. She believes that the government is doing its best and that citizens should support them with prayers rather than constant criticism. That part of her statement has also been criticized, with many arguing that the government should be held accountable, not given a free pass because they are "trying their best." Yinka's faith is sincere, but for many Nigerians, sincerity is not enough when children are being taken from their schools.
