“You Don’t Expect Him to Wear Khaki and Fight” - Pastor Adeboye Defends Tinubu Over Insecurity
Pastor Enoch Adeboye has sparked fresh reactions after defending President Bola Tinubu against criticisms over Nigeria’s insecurity, saying the president has already fulfilled his role by directing the military to act.
The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has come to the defence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over criticisms trailing the worsening insecurity in the country.
Adeboye, who spoke at the US-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala organised by the Save Nigeria Group in Washington, D.C., said the President has done his part by issuing directives to the military and security agencies.
“I don’t support those who are accusing the president of not doing enough. When the commander-in-chief has given instructions to his subordinates, he has done his bit. You don’t expect him to go and put on khaki and fight.”
The revered cleric likened Tinubu’s role to that of U.S. President Donald Trump, saying world leaders are supposed to give strategic directives to their armies, not take part in military operations themselves. In defending the President, Adeboye admitted that Nigeria’s security situation was still very worrisome. He noted that terrorism and kidnapping, which were largely associated with the northern part of the country, have now spread to the South, creating fear and uncertainty among many Nigerians.
“I’ve spoken with President Tinubu and the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu. I’ve told the President to give the military commanders 90 days to end terrorism or resign,” he said.
Adeboye also emphasised the need for authorities to arrest criminals, identify and prosecute those who are allegedly funding terrorist activities.
“We have to call to account influential businessmen and politicians who are sponsoring insecurity if there is hope for the country to have lasting peace,” he said.
He also appealed to the United States and other members of the international community to support Nigeria’s efforts to fight terrorism and restore security in the country. Adeboye’s comments have added another dimension to the ongoing discussion on leadership as insecurity continues to dominate national conversation.
