Peller Declines Summons From Oba of Benin Over Palace Dispute
Social media influencer Habeeb Hamzat, known as Peller, has refused to return to Benin City after being summoned by the Oba of Benin, following a recent controversy at the palace.
Speaking during a livestream on March 8, 2026, Peller said he considered sending members of his management team in his place but decided against it. He explained that he was concerned they could face legal issues or become involved in the situation.
The issue began on March 6, 2026, when Peller reportedly entered the Benin Palace without permission. The act was strongly criticised by the Benin Traditional Council, which described it as a violation of palace rules and tradition.
In a statement signed by its Secretary, Frank Irabor, the council warned that those involved would face consequences. It also stressed the importance of protecting the dignity of the palace.
The council further revealed that a royal queen linked to the incident could face disciplinary action, including possible removal, showing how serious the matter is.
Peller was asked to appear before the palace to explain himself, but he has not honoured the summons. The Benin Traditional Council has insisted that he must appear in person and submit a written apology. They also warned that legal action could be taken if he continues to ignore the summons.
