“I Looked Into It for Months” — EFCC Chairman Speaks on Pastor Jerry Eze, Sparks Online Reactions
The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has stirred conversations after revealing that he once examined financial activities connected to popular Pastor, Jerry Eze. This happened at the Jerry Eze Foundation Business Grant Award Ceremoney where he was asked to give a speech.
In his words “I investigated Pastor Jerry Eze for six months for alleged money laundering. We work by intelligence and petitions. There was an account where dollars and pounds were dropping like rain drops from Colombia, America, Sri Lanka, and even Togo. We investigated him but found nothing suspicious.”
According to his remarks, the process lasted several months and was part of a careful review or due diligence process, which ultimately did not establish any illegal activity. He further noted that after the process, he reached out in a positive light.
The story quickly gained traction for several reasons and as expected, reactions have been divided some people see it as a sign of transparency and due diligence and that scrutiny does not always mean guilt. Others have had reasons to believe they acted was not without any reason and the investigation must have happened for a reason.
In the end, nobody knows beyond what the EFCC chairman has revealed and whether EFCC had cause to review or examine transactions/activities shall be revealed in due time.
