“My Wife Asked Me to Be Her Husband” — Banky W Opens Up on Love Story with Adesua
Nigerian singer and actor Banky W has shared a heartfelt account of how his relationship with his wife, Adesua Etomi-Wellington, evolved from initial rejection into a strong marriage.
Speaking on The Teju Babyface Show, Banky W revealed that their relationship didn’t start off smoothly. In fact, both of them initially placed each other in the friend zone, despite his strong belief that she was the one for him.
According to him, there was a period when he was completely sure about Adesua, but she didn’t feel the same way. After several failed attempts to move things forward, he admitted he became emotionally drained and decided to pull back completely.
Despite the disappointment, he chose not to completely walk away. Instead, he held on to their bond, describing their connection as one of the most meaningful friendships he had ever had. Maintaining that friendship, he said, ultimately brought them even closer.
Believing strongly that Adesua was meant to be his wife, he prayed about it but made a personal decision not to bring it up again unless she came to that realization herself. According to Banky W, after her own personal journey and realizations, Adesua eventually called him and said: “Banky, you know you’re my husband, right?” His reaction was calm and confident. He recalled responding that he had already known for over a year and was simply waiting for her to realize it too. Banky W said his composure came from his faith and trust in timing, explaining that the more grounded he became spiritually, the more certain he felt about how things would unfold.
What started as missed signals and friend zoning eventually turned into a marriage grounded in friendship, patience, and belief. And one takeaway from their love story is that sometimes, love isn’t about rushing, it’s about waiting for the right moment.
