British-Nigerian Man Who Abducted His Son Still at Large After UK Prison Accidentally Releases Him

British-Nigerian Man Who Abducted His Son Still at Large After UK Prison Accidentally Releases Him

A British-Nigerian man jailed for abducting his five-year-old son remains on the run after UK prison authorities mistakenly freed him, in what a judge has called a major institutional failure.

British-Nigerian Man Who Abducted His Son Still at Large After UK Prison Accidentally Releases Him

This is the kind of mistake that makes you question how prison systems even function. Ifedayo Adedapo Kolawole Adeyeye, a British-Nigerian man serving time for abducting his own five-year-old son, was accidentally released from HMP Pentonville on April 21, 2026. The problem is that He still had an extra year to serve before his planned extradition to France. Someone dropped the ball, big time.

Prison officials didn't even realize their error until two days later. By then, Adeyeye was long gone, and an urgent manhunt was launched. But as of now, he's still out there, and nobody seems to know exactly where he is.

The case has been described by Justice Hayden as a major institutional failure, and he didn't stop there. Delivering judgment on May 1, the judge criticized prison officials for what he called an "alarming lack of urgency," questioning whether they even understood how serious this situation really is. You have a man convicted of abducting a child, and you just let him walk out? Make it make sense.

Here's what Adeyeye did. In July 2024, during his son's first overnight visit with him, he took the boy, Laurys N'Djosse Adeyeye, from the child's mother, Claire N'Djosse, and disappeared. That's not a custody battle gone wrong, that's straight abduction. Now he's somewhere out there, and authorities are scrambling to find him before he disappears completely.

The public is understandably furious. How does a prisoner with pending extradition and an unserved sentence just get released? What kind of system allows such a glaring oversight? And more importantly, where is the little boy? The focus should be on finding Adeyeye and bringing him back into custody, but the longer he remains free, the harder that becomes.

This incident has exposed serious flaws in UK prison operations, and you can bet there will be internal investigations and probably some people losing their jobs. But that doesn't change the fact that a convicted child abductor is walking around somewhere, and a five-year-old boy's safety hangs in the balance.
