The date is observed as Biafra Remembrance Day (also called Biafra Heroes and Heroines Day). It is meant to honour people who died during the Nigerian Civil War and the struggle for Biafra.
The directive requires residents to stay indoors as a way of honouring those who lost their lives during the Nigerian Civil War. The aim is to commend fallen heroes of the Biafran movement and It is typically described as a one-day total shutdown of activities. This is not new though, IPOB has issued similar May 30 sit-at-home orders in previous years.
