US Intelligence Behind Boko Haram and Banditry in Nigeria – Sheikh Gumi Alleges

Kaduna-based Islamic cleric Ahmad Gumi has alleged that American intelligence agencies are behind the activities of bandits and Boko Haram terrorists in Nigeria.

US Intelligence Behind Boko Haram and Banditry in Nigeria – Sheikh Gumi Alleges

Sheikh Gumi has done it again, he has dropped a claim that will get people talking, arguing, and probably attacking him from all sides. The Kaduna-based Islamic cleric took to Facebook on Saturday and made a very serious allegation. According to him, American intelligence agencies are behind the banditry and Boko Haram terrorism that have plagued Nigeria for years.

Yes, you read that right. Gumi is pointing fingers at the United States. His allegation came in response to comments by one Mike Arnold, who had spoken about what he called the persecution of Christians in Nigeria. Arnold had shared photos of himself with some prominent Nigerians, including former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke and Nigeria's Information Minister Mohammed Idris. Gumi saw those comments and decided to fire back with his own theory.

According to Gumi, the US has a hand in the insecurity that has claimed thousands of Nigerian lives and displaced even more. He did not provide evidence, at least not in the post that has since gone viral, but he made his position clear. In his view, America is not a neutral party. They have interests in Nigeria, and those interests include keeping the country unstable.

Reactions have been explosive. Some Nigerians agree with Gumi, saying that America has a history of meddling in African countries for their own benefit. They point to Libya, to Somalia, to other nations where US involvement has led to chaos. They say it is not far-fetched to believe the same is happening in Nigeria.

Others have dismissed Gumi's claim as baseless and irresponsible. They argue that blaming the US for Boko Haram and banditry is a convenient way to avoid holding Nigerian leaders accountable. If the government is failing to protect its citizens, they say, that is not America's fault, it is the fault of those in power.

A few have pointed out the irony of Gumi making this allegation. The same Gumi who has been known to negotiate with bandits and even defend some of their actions is now saying the US is behind them. If the US is truly behind the bandits, people are asking, why was Gumi sitting with them and asking the government to forgive them?

Gumi has not responded to the backlash yet, and he might not. He has never been one to back down from controversy. Whether his allegation has any truth to it or not, it has succeeded in one thing – getting people to question who is really pulling the strings in Nigeria's se

curity crisis.
