“I Haven’t Voted Before” — Blaqbonez Says He’s “Clocked Out” of Nigeria Over Unmet Hopes
In a recent interview, Blaqbonez opened up about his relationship with Nigeria’s political system, admitting that despite being a vocal public figure, he has never participated in any election.
According to the rapper:
“I haven’t voted before. I feel like I’ve clocked out of Nigeria because so many things I hoped would have happened haven’t happened.”
The rapper also said he believes Nigeria’s leaders are simply a reflection of its citizens.
“I feel like our leaders are a representation of us. I don’t see any difference regardless of the party,” he stated.
His comments have quickly sparked debate online, with many Nigerians divided over his honesty. Some praised him for openly expressing a feeling of political disappointment that many young Nigerians can relate to, while others criticized him for not voting despite publicly expressing dissatisfaction.
Blaqbonez also joked about possibly running for office himself someday after the podcast host encouraged him to do so.
“Maybe it’s my job to save the country,” he said, adding, “Because I believe in myself.”
Through his statement, it is obvious that he has not suggested he is leaving Nigeria physically, but his use of the phrase “clocked out” appears to describe an emotional withdrawal from the country’s political and social realities.
