PDP Faction Plans to Screen Goodluck Jonathan as Sole Presidential Aspirant for 2027

Goodluck Jonathan is back, Or at least, some people want him to be back. A faction of the PDP, backed by Governor Seyi Makinde, has announced plans to screen the former president as the party's sole presidential aspirant for the 2027 election. Yes, sole aspirant. Not one of many. The only one. According to reports, a 14-member screening committee has been set up for the exercise. The panel includes big names like former Vice-President Namadi Sambo, former Plateau governor Jonah Jang, and former Foreign Affairs Minister Tom Ikimi. These are not small players. This is serious, The faction had earlier revealed that Jonathan recently completed the party's fresh digital registration exercise directed by INEC. So he is officially a card-carrying member again, or at least his name is in the system.

The PDP faction also disclosed that hundreds of governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives, and state assembly aspirants would be screened nationwide starting Tuesday as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections. Reactions have been pouring in. Some Nigerians are excited at the prospect of a Jonathan return. They remember his time in office as relatively peaceful, and they think he might be better than what they have now. Others are tired of recycling old leaders. They want fresh faces, new ideas, not the same people who have been ruling since forever.
