“I Have No Time for Gen Z Wahala” - Bashir El-Rufai Confirms Divorce, Announces New Fiancée
Bashir El-Rufai is under fire after confirming that he divorced his first wife and is now engaged to another woman. The controversy began after Bashir interacted with followers on X, where he publicly spoke about a woman believed to be his new partner and confirmed that his first marriage had ended.
According to posts now circulating widely online, Bashir wrote: “Yes, she’s from Bida, and yes, I divorced my first wife, (I have no time for GenZ wahala).” He went on to praise Nupe women, claiming they “treat their husbands like emperors.” After social media users questioned whether he was still married, Bashir later clarified his relationship status by stating, “I’m not married yet. I am divorced,” before eventually confirming that the woman is now his fiancée. Bashir was previously married to Halima Nwakaego Kazuare, with their traditional wedding held in Abuja in 2020.
The comments quickly triggered heated debates online. While some users defended his decision to move on from an unhappy marriage, others criticised the way he publicly addressed his ex-wife and generalised “Gen Z” women. Many also questioned whether private marital matters should have been discussed so openly on social media.
