“I Made It In Your So-Called Lagos, But You're Still Broke” - Peter Okoye Fires Back at Critic

Nigerian music star Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P of P-Square, has stirred reactions online after clapping back at a social media critic who questioned his comments about success and living standards. The singer's fiery response quickly went viral, sparking debate among fans and critics alike.

Peter Okoye is back into another social media controversy for firing back at online critics after receiving backlash over comments he made about Nigeria, public criticism, and his personal success.

The musician has been loud about his criticism of Nigeria’s current situation and calls for citizens to demand better governance. Reportedly, the singer has been receiving backlash for speaking up amidst the current pandemic going on in the county. Mr P appeared frustrated by what he described as coordinated attacks against him online. He wrote that the criticism had exposed the mindset of some people around him and argued that many of those insulting him could not maintain his lifestyle. He added that his comments were ultimately about Nigeria and the need for citizens to demand better leadership and living conditions.

The statement quickly generated mixed reactions. Some people supported his message about national development, while others focused on his remark about his “standard of living,” accusing him of sounding elitist or dismissive of ordinary Nigerians.

One critic in particular identified as Emir of Port Harcourt (@WOkene), mocked the comment by saying Mr P’s lifestyle could only be sustained in Lagos and not in his home state of Anambra.

In response, Mr P doubled down, writing:

“I made it in your so-called Lagos! But you are still broke in your so-called Lagos! Abi dem forbid una to make am for Lagos?"

The exchange further fueled debate online, with supporters arguing that he was simply defending himself against personal attacks, while critics felt the response shifted the conversation from the issues he initially raised to wealth and status comparisons. As with many celebrity social media disputes in Nigeria, reactions have been sharply divided, with supporters viewing it as confidence and critics seeing it as unnecessary class-based rhetoric.
