“Men Are Worse Groupies Than Women” - Singer Ms Jorji Sparks Heated Debate Online

Nigerian singer Ms Jorji has set the social media on fire after making a bold statement that challenges one of the most common stereotypes in society. In a recent podcast interview, the singer said that men are actually “worse groupies than women.” She said a lot of men go out of their way to associate themselves with celebrities, wealthy people and powerful people, but they don’t get the same scrutiny as women. "Women are often accused of being groupies when they are seen with successful men or public figures but men who do the same are often excused or even celebrated," Ms Jorji said. She contends that the double standard has allowed many men to engage in excessive celebrity worship and social climbing without drawing the kind of criticism that is typically.

The singer’s comments quickly divided opinion on social media. Some social media users agreed with her observation, noting that many men aggressively seek access to celebrities, politicians, athletes and wealthy businessmen for status and opportunities, while others argued that groupie culture is not exclusive to any gender and should not be generalised. Many fans praised Ms Jorji for highlighting what they see as a societal bias, with men often missing from the conversation about celebrity obsession and social validation. But critics have accused her of making a sweeping statement that paints men with a broad brush.

As clips from the interview continue to circulate online, the discussion has moved past celebrity culture to conversations about gender stereotypes, social status, networking and the different ways society judges the behaviour of men and women.
