Nigeria Will Never Bow to Terrorists or Bandits – President Tinubu Roars, Vows to Rescue Captives

Nigeria Will Never Bow to Terrorists or Bandits – President Tinubu Roars, Vows to Rescue Captives

President Bola Tinubu has reiterated his administration's resolve to tackle insecurity and secure the release of all individuals currently held captive by criminal groups.

Nigeria Will Never Bow to Terrorists or Bandits – President Tinubu Roars, Vows to Rescue Captives

President Tinubu has sent a strong message to the bandits and terrorists terrorizing Nigerian communities, the government will never bow to their demands, and it will never stop fighting to bring captives home. The President's message was delivered by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, during a national interdenominational church service held at the National Christian Centre in Abuja as part of activities marking the 2026 Democracy Day celebration. Tinubu declared that the government of Nigeria shall never succumb to terror, banditry, or any form of criminal intimidation, words that were met with applause from the congregation. The speech was designed to reassure Nigerians that despite the challenges, the administration is committed to protecting lives and property.

According to a statement issued by the SGF's media aide, Yomi Odunuga, Tinubu emphasized that protecting the lives and property of Nigerians remains a key priority of the Federal Government, and he noted that recent attacks and kidnappings only demonstrate the need for continued and intensified security operations. He did not offer a timeline for when the captives would be rescued, and he did not provide specific details about what new measures would be taken. His message was more about morale than strategy, telling Nigerians that their leaders have not given up, even when it feels like the situation is hopeless.

The online space has been divided in its reaction to the President's statement. Some Nigerians have welcomed the strong language, saying that it is about time the government spoke with firmness and resolve instead of the usual diplomatic vagueness. They argue that the first step to defeating bandits is refusing to be intimidated by them, and Tinubu's words send that message clearly. Others have dismissed the statement as empty rhetoric, pointing out that previous presidents also spoke strongly about insecurity while the situation continued to worsen. They want to see action, not speeches, and they are tired of hearing about what the government will do while communities keep getting attacked.

Tinubu's speech at the Democracy Day service was clearly intended to boost public morale, but whether it will have any effect on the ground is another question entirely. Bandits do not care about speeches, and captives cannot be freed by strong words alone. The President has made his position clear, Nigeria will not bow, and the government will continue to fight. Now Nigerians are waiting to see if those words will be backed up by results.
