Love and Marriage Are Not Scams, But Some People Use Relationships as "Meal Tickets" – Actor Emeka Ike

Veteran Nollywood actor Emeka Ike has defended love and marriage, insisting that they are not scams, but warned that relationships become fraudulent when one partner secretly uses the other as a "meal ticket" for financial gain.

Love and Marriage Are Not Scams, But Some People Use Relationships as "Meal Tickets" – Actor Emeka Ike

Emeka Ike is tired of people blaming love and marriage for their relationship failures. The veteran actor, who has been married for over two decades, spoke during an interview with BBC News Pidgin, where he addressed the growing trend of people calling marriage a scam.

He said, "Love and marriage no be scam, but e get people wey dey hungry wey dey use relationship as meal ticket. Dat na where e become scam." His words have sparked conversations about the motives behind many modern relationships.

According to Emeka, the problem lies not with marriage itself but with people who enter relationships purely for financial gain. He described genuine love as "beautiful" and stressed that relationships should be built on sincerity rather than hidden motives or financial expectations.

He argued that when one partner is secretly using the other as a means to survive, the relationship becomes fraudulent and will inevitably fail. His comments come at a time when many young Nigerians are questioning whether marriage is still worth pursuing.

The actor's advice was directed at women who have been led to believe that marriage is a scam by those whose own marriages have crashed. He urged ladies to stop listening to women whose marriages have failed, arguing that their experiences do not represent the reality of all relationships. He believes that many people who speak negatively about marriage are projecting their own pain onto others and discouraging them from finding genuine love.

Emeka, who has been married to his wife, Irene, since 2004, is a strong advocate for the institution of marriage. He has spoken openly about his own marital journey, admitting that he and his wife have faced challenges but always worked through them.

He warned that people who enter marriage with the wrong motives will always be disappointed, but those who build their relationships on love, trust, and sincerity will find it rewarding. His message is a reminder that marriage is not the problem, the people in it are.
