“Date Women Within Your Wage Bracket Instead of Chasing Someone You Can’t Afford” - Toke Makinwa Advises Men

Media personality Toke Makinwa has sparked fresh debate on relationships after advising men to date women within their financial capacity instead of pursuing partners they cannot afford.

Nollywood actress and media personality Toke Makinwa has shared her thoughts on dating and finances, urging men to pursue relationships within their economic class rather than chasing women whose lifestyles they cannot sustain.

Speaking during a recent episode of the MENtality Podcast hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Toke said she firmly believes many relationship challenges could be avoided if people dated within their financial bracket. According to her, financial compatibility often reduces unnecessary pressure and unrealistic expectations in relationships.

“I am a big believer of date within your wage and within your class. That way there will not be stories that touch. You will have a good girl at home, a girl who will even make dinner with her own money when you don’t have. Yet, some men will still want to cheat on her with a woman they can’t afford.”

The media personality went on to argue that some men leave loyal and supportive partners in pursuit of women who are financially out of their league, only to later complain that women are materialistic. She also reflected on how financial success can affect relationships, saying wealth does not necessarily change a person’s character but rather exposes who they have always been.

“Heaven forbid you end up with a guy who hasn’t blown. The day he blows, that is when you will know his true personality. And that scares women. Money doesn’t change people, it just reveals who the person is. So many men are treating women who sacrificed everything for them badly.”

Toke’s remarks have since gone viral, sparking heated conversations across social media. While many agreed with her stance, saying financial compatibility is an important factor in building healthy relationships, others argued that love should not be determined by income and that couples can grow financially together with commitment and understanding.

As the debate continues online, Toke Makinwa’s comments have once again put the spotlight on the role money plays in modern relationships and whether financial stability should influence who people choose to or not date.
