“If My Man Earns 5,000, He Should Give Me at Least 3,000” — Toke Makinwa Reveals Her Relationship Deal Breaker

Media personality Toke Makinwa has sparked a conversation about financial expectations in relationships after revealing that she has never dated a man who asked her for money, insisting that the day a man does so, he will never hear from her again.

Media personality and podcaster Toke Makinwa has sparked reactions online after revealing her views on money and financial responsibility in relationships.

Speaking during a recent episode of her podcast, Toke Moments, which featured reality TV star Mercy Eke, Makinwa revealed she has never dated a man who asked her for money and insisted that it would be an immediate deal breaker for her.

Reflecting on conversations about women who financially support their partners, the media personality said she often wonders why she has never found herself in such a situation.

“When I hear women say these things, I sit down and I ask myself, why don’t men ask me for money? Men don’t ask me for money.”

Toke jokingly suggested that perhaps her personality and the way she communicates her own problems might discourage men from asking her for financial assistance. She went on to explain that even when she dated men who were not financially comfortable, she never experienced a situation where her partner confidently asked her for money. Toke said;

“I’ve never dated a guy who has ever asked me for money. Even if I date a broke guy, he earns 5K, at least 3K out of that money he’ll give it to me.”

Making her position clear, the podcaster said she considers it a major red flag when a man asks her for financial support, adding that she is grateful that none of her past relationships reached that point.

“I’m thankful for that grace though, because I’ve never, ever, ever dated a guy that has confidently asked me for money. The day you do, you’ll never hear from me again.”

Her comments have since sparked a lively debate online. While some people agreed with Toke’s stance and argued that they prefer relationships where the man takes financial responsibility, others questioned whether asking a partner for help should automatically be considered a deal breaker. The conversation has once again highlighted the different expectations people bring into relationships.

For Toke Makinwa, however, her position appears straightforward: financial instability may not necessarily stop her from dating a man, but asking her for money is a boundary she says she simply will not cross.
