“I Love You Toke, But I Beg to Disagree” - Didi Ekanem Challenges Toke Makinwa Over Her Views on Men Asking Women for Money

A fresh debate about money and relationships has erupted online after actress Didi Ekanem publicly disagreed with media personality Toke Makinwa over her stance on men asking women for financial support.

Nollywood actress Didi Ekanem has weighed in on the recent debate about finances in relationships over media personality Toke Makinwa’s recent comments about never dating a man who asked her for money.

Toke had recently revealed on her podcast, Toke Moments, that she had never been in a relationship where a man asked her for financial assistance. She went as far as saying that if a man ever confidently asked her for money, she would end the relationship. However, Didi Ekanem has now offered a different perspective, arguing that women in loving relationships would naturally want to support their partners when they genuinely need financial help.

Addressing Toke directly in a social media post, Didi wrote:

“I love you Toke, but I beg to disagree with you that no man has ever asked you for money, and that you haven’t given a man money before.”

The actress continued by arguing that financial support should not automatically be viewed negatively when it comes from a place of genuine love and concern.

“There is hardly any woman in a loving relationship who wouldn’t support the man she loves if he genuinely needs financial help.”

The actress also took a playful swipe at Toke, suggesting that she knows the media personality well enough to believe that she would not immediately reveal all her problems to a man she is interested in.

“And I also know for a fact that you’ll never present your problems to a man at hello that you are interested in.”

Didi admitted that her comment might be seen as “rage bait,” but said she could not simply remain silent on an issue where she disagreed with Toke.

Her remarks have since sparked fresh conversations online, with social media users sharing divided opinions about whether financial support between romantic partners should be considered normal or whether asking a woman for money should be a major red flag.

The exchange has added another layer to the ongoing conversation about love, money, gender roles, and financial expectations in modern relationships, proving once again that when celebrities share their personal views on relationships, Nigerians are always ready to join the conversation.
