Peter Obi Visits Isaac Fayose Hours After Businessman Threatened to Withdraw Support

Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), made a surprise visit to businessman Isaac Fayose on Saturday, just hours after Fayose threatened to withdraw his support and declared his love for President Bola Tinubu and his son, Seyi Tinubu.

The meeting, which took place at Fayose's Abuja residence, came as a dramatic twist following days of tension between the two men.

Just hours earlier, Fayose had released a video where he threatened to withdraw his support for Obi, accusing the former Anambra governor of failing to appreciate his efforts and sacrifices during the 2023 election campaign.

In the same video, Fayose had declared his admiration for President Tinubu and his son, saying, "I'm a Yoruba man, and I love President Tinubu and his son".

The controversy began when Fayose was spotted in a viral video with Seyi Tinubu, Cubana Chief Priest, and others, where they prayed for President Tinubu.

The meeting sparked backlash from Obidient supporters, who accused Fayose of being financially compromised.

In response, Fayose fired back at his critics, recounting his sacrifices for Obi's campaign, including spending his own money, providing his hotel for supporters, and participating in protests.

However, in a video shared on his Instagram page on Saturday, Fayose was seen warmly welcoming Obi into his home.

He declared, "It's not every day the President comes to your house. Our incoming president. So shall it be, in Jesus' name". He also reaffirmed his loyalty, saying, "I am 100 per cent Obidient. So you better be Obidient. We are together, and we are winning".

Addressing the online backlash, Obi downplayed the attacks on Fayose, suggesting that many of those criticising him were not genuine supporters of his movement.

He said, "Half of the people that abused you don't follow us. What they do is hire people to call others all sorts of names" . Obi also emphasised the importance of constructive criticism, saying, "The one thing I take is criticism. You can never be annoyed with anybody for saying I did something wrong".

The visit effectively cooled tensions and ended speculation about a potential split between the two men. Fayose confirmed that Obi had called him earlier, revealing, "Four hours ago, my leader, Peter Obi called me.

His Excellency said 'sorry about your wife. I'm in Lagos tonight or tomorrow morning, I will be in your house'" . The reconciliation appears to have restored Fayose's confidence, as he now describes Obi as "Nigeria's incoming president".
