N80 Million Is Too Small for a 300-Guest Wedding - Influencer Simi Sanya Explains Why

Influencer Simi Sanya has stirred debate online after describing N80 million as a small budget for a 300-guest wedding, explaining why lavish ceremonies cost far more than many people imagine.

Lifestyle influencer Simi Sanya has stirred debate on social media after boldly claiming that a budget of N80 million is actually “small” for anyone planning a lavish wedding with around 300 guests.

Speaking during a recent interview, Simi was asked how much people should realistically budget for a luxury wedding. Reacting to a scenario where someone planned to spend 80 million naira on a 300-guest ceremony, she didn’t hesitate to share her opinion.

“It’s small oo,” she replied, surprising many viewers.

According to Simi, the final cost of a wedding depends on several factors, including the venue, decoration, catering, and the couple’s personal preferences. Using her own wedding as an example, she revealed that her traditional wedding took place on Lagos Island, while her white wedding was held on the mainlan to reduce costs.

She explained that event halls on Lagos Island are significantly more expensive than those on the mainland, advising couples looking to save money to consider locations on the mainland or even Ikorodu.

“If you are choosing to do your wedding on the Island, just start budgeting N10 million and above for the hall,” she said.

On catering, Simi noted that some couples reduce costs by paying per plate, but she deliberately chose a different approach because she wanted every guest to enjoy the celebration without restrictions.

“Me, I didn’t do that. I wanted people to eat, be filled and be merry,” she said.

She also pointed out that wedding décor alone can cost around N5 million, stressing that every celebration is different and ultimately depends on the couple’s priorities and budget.

When asked what she would have done if her husband wasn’t willing to fund the wedding of her dreams, Simi smiled and gave a response that has since caught the attention of many online.

“He loves me, so he wants my dream wedding. Anything that makes me happy.”

Her comments have since sparked mixed reactions across social media, with some agreeing that luxury weddings have become incredibly expensive, while others argued that no wedding should cost tens of millions of naira regardless of the guest count.
