“Tell Your Boyfriends to Stop Calling Men Who Do Skincare Gay” - Opeyemi Famakin Urges Women to Encourage Their Partners to Use Sunscreen and Face Wash

Food critic Opeyemi Famakin has sparked hilarious reactions online after delivering a playful but serious message to Nigerian men who mock other men for having skincare routines.

Popular Nigerian food critic Opeyemi Famakin has sparked a conversation online after calling on women to encourage their partners to take better care of their skin, while addressing the stereotype that men who have skincare routines are somehow less masculine.

In a humorous video shared online, Famakin urged women to speak to their boyfriends and husbands, particularly men who mock other men for using skincare products.

“Tell your boyfriends to stop calling men that do skincare gay! Tell your sandpaper-faced boyfriends and men that men who do skincare are not gay!” he said while applying sunscreen to his face.

The food critic then proudly showed off his skin while challenging viewers to look for white cast, that some sunscreens leave behind.

“Do you see any white cast? Do you see any white cast? No, you don’t.”

Beyond the jokes, he also used the opportunity to educate men on the importance of having a proper skincare routine, stressing that the face should not necessarily be treated with the same soap used on the rest of the body.

“You don’t use the same soap you use on your body for your face! You use a face wash for your face, and you use soap for your body. Say it after me: ‘Face wash for your face, soap for your body.’”

Famakin, however, didn’t end his message without another playful jab at men who refuse to care for their skin.

“If you like, don’t do skincare. Yes, your babe, she loves you. But when you are on top of her, she’s going to be imagining my smooth face and not your rough, dirty, handsome-but-rough sandpaper face!”

He concluded by encouraging men to incorporate basic skincare products such as sunscreen and face wash into their daily routines, insisting that taking care of one’s appearance has nothing to do with masculinity or sexual orientation.

His humorous delivery has since sparked reactions online, with many social media users agreeing with his message while others have been entertained by his unconventional approach to encouraging Nigerian men to take skincare more seriously.
