"I Never Had Intimacy With Another Woman Since I Married My Wife" – Rauf Aregbesola

The National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has revealed that he has never had an intimate relationship with another woman since marrying his wife, Sherifat, saying his fidelity is rooted in his fear of God and a personal commitment he made while seeking divine intervention for his political ambitions.

"I Never Had Intimacy With Another Woman Since I Married My Wife" – Rauf Aregbesola

Aregbesola made the disclosure while addressing supporters at an ADC campaign rally in Ejigbo Local Government Area of Osun State ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

Speaking in Yoruba, the former Osun State governor said his decision to remain faithful to his wife was motivated by his fear of God and a personal commitment to himself.

He said he even made his fidelity part of a personal test while seeking divine intervention in his political ambitions. "Oh Lord my God, if you are the one I am serving, and I did not add any other thing to it.

What I am about to say, only a few men can say it: Because of your fear, I never had any intimacy with another woman since I married my wife," Aregbesola said.

The former governor, who served as Osun State governor from 2010 to 2018 and later as Minister of Interior under former President Muhammadu Buhari, is known for his distinctive political style.

His claim of marital fidelity adds to a public persona he has carefully cultivated over the years. He previously boasted that he was the first Nigerian governor to rule a state for eight years without owning a personal house, revealing that he stayed in a friend's house throughout his tenure.

Aregbesola also referenced his political journey in his address, adding that he had told God, "Next June, we must do it at the government house".

His remarks come as Osun State prepares for its governorship election on Saturday, August 15, 2026, where the ADC is fielding candidates.

The former governor's revelation about his personal life appears to be part of his broader message to supporters, linking his moral discipline to his political ambitions and his commitment to public service.

Reactions to Aregbesola's claim have been mixed across social media platforms. Some have praised his honesty and commitment to his marriage vows, while others have questioned the timing of the disclosure, suggesting it may be a strategic move ahead of the election.

Others have also pointed out the challenge of verifying such a personal claim, especially given the private nature of marital relationships.

As the campaign continues, Aregbesola's statement has added a personal dimension to the political discourse in Osun State.
