“We Do Not Want Bloodshed” - Davido Calls on Trump to Pay Close Attention to Osun Election

Davido has called on U.S. President Donald Trump and the international community to pay close attention to the Osun governorship election, amid concerns over continued violence and intimidation.

Afrobeats superstar Davido has taken his concerns over the forthcoming Osun governorship election to an international level, calling on U.S. President Donald Trump and the international community to closely watch the poll amid fears of violence and voter intimidation.

The singer made the appeal in a statement shared on social media, directly tagging Trump and the official account of the U.S. government. Davido said there were growing concerns about tension, possible violence, intimidation and disruption of the democratic process as Osun prepares for the election. He stressed that residents of the state deserve to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely and peacefully, without fear.

“We Do Not Want Bloodshed”

In his strongly worded appeal, Davido urged the United States and the international community to pay close attention to the election and encourage relevant authorities to protect voters and ensure that their votes are respected.

The singer ended his message with a clear call for peace:

“We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election.”

His post quickly generated reactions online, with many Nigerians debating his decision to specifically appeal to Trump over an election taking place in Nigeria. The Osun governorship election is scheduled for August 15, 2026, with incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke seeking another term.   Davido’s intervention is particularly notable because of his close family connection to Governor Adeleke. The singer has previously been publicly involved in political matters concerning his family and Osun.

Following criticism over his appeal to Trump, Davido reportedly defended his decision by pointing to his dual U.S.-Nigerian citizenship, saying Trump is also his president.  Meanwhile, concerns about maintaining peace during the election are not entirely new. Authorities in Osun have previously urged political parties and their supporters to conduct themselves peacefully ahead of the poll.

And with election day fast approaching, his public appeal has certainly added another layer to the growing conversation around the Osun poll.
