“I Sold My Car for N180,000 and Bought an Okada to Survive” - Veteran Actor Sunday Afolabi Breaks Down in Tears

Veteran Nollywood actor Sunday Afolabi has opened up about his painful financial struggles, revealing how he sold his car and bought an okada to survive after acting jobs became scarce.

Veteran Nollywood actor Sunday Afolabi has broken down in tears while recounting the heartbreaking struggles he has faced since relocating to Badagry, revealing how he went from being a familiar face on television to taking desperate measures just to survive.

Afolabi opened up about his difficult experience during an emotional interview with Biola Adebayo on the Talk to Bpodcast.

According to the actor, he moved to Badagry with hopes of owning a house and building a better life. However, the decision came with unexpected consequences for his acting career. As acting and photography jobs became increasingly difficult to find, Afolabi said he struggled to maintain his car and eventually had to sell it.

“I Sold My Car for N180,000”

The veteran actor revealed that he sold his Nissan Quest for just 180,000 Naira and used the money to purchase a fairly used motorcycle, as a means of survival.

But the decision created another problem. Afolabi admitted that he was not experienced with riding motorcycles and repeatedly fell while using the bike.

“I actually sold my Nissan Quest to buy a fairly used motorcycle,” he revealed.

The actor became visibly emotional as he spoke about the difficult period and the impact it had on his wife and children.

One of the moments that appeared to hit Afolabi particularly hard was recalling an encounter with someone who recognised him from television. According to the actor, the man was shocked to see him struggling despite knowing him as a TV star. The man reportedly advised him to return to the city and reconnect with people in the industry.

But Afolabi insisted that he would rather work than beg.

“What I hate most in my life is to beg for food. I would rather do any legitimate job,” he said.

The actor made it clear that he is still willing to work and would gladly use a good car for Uber if he had access to one.

Following the emotional revelation, host Biola Adebayo appealed to the public to support the veteran actor. He expressed hope that the Talk to B platform could help Afolabi secure a car, improve his accommodation and establish a sustainable means of livelihood. For an actor who once appeared regularly on television, Afolabi’s story has touched many Nigerians and shines a light on the struggles some veterans face after years in the entertainment industry.
